LRTA AGM – Charleroi, Belgium, 26-29 September 2024
The AGM was held in the Novotel on Friday 27th September starting at 14:00 Belgium Time (13:00 UK Time)
Reports and the accounts will be available on the Members’ Page of the Membership System Membermojo from 13 September. The following members of Council and positions are up for election: Treasurer (currently Tim Kendell), plus three ordinary members (currently Carl Isgar, Jim Harkins and Mike Willsher). Nominationas are now closed.
Members wishing to submit resolutions to the AGM had to do so together with the required number of signatures by 26 July. No resolutions have been received.
Any member not able to attend may do so by video, but will not be able to vote. Any member wishing to vote by proxy must submit the proxy form (now available on the Members’ Page of the membership system Membermojo – sign in required) as noted on the form by Monday 23 September 2024.
Attending the AGM
The AGM weekend has been organised in conjunction with an Ian Longworth tour and Mapmaker Travel who are handling all the arrangements and bookings for members attending the events. Two hotels have been chosen in the centre of Charleroi – the Novotel and the Ibis – and these may be booked for between 2-4 nights. Links to the booking forms are provided below.
You are welcome to make you own arrangements to attend just the AGM on the Friday, however, to join in with the other acivities including the Evening Reception, the Annual Dinner and excursions, bookings must be made through Mapmaker Travel.
AGM Weekend Programme
Arrival in Charleroi on either afternoon of 26th or morning of 27th September.
27th September
Optional Lunch prior to AGM – Sandwich and Salad buffet prior to AGM with water tea/coffee
Cost – £20 per person
14:00 AGM – LRTA Members only in the Novotel Charleroi Hotel – no charge.
Private guided tour in groups of 25 prior to event at the Le Bois du Cazier with private guide. They have a specialist tram exhibition running from June – December 2024
Private evening reception at Le Bois du Cazier museum including main meal and salads and one drink per person (further drinks can be bought on the evening)
28th September
Optional Excursion to the Tramway Touristique de l’Aisne (110km) featured in a recent Classic Trams article in Tramways & Urban Transit. The line from Pont d’Érezée via Forge à la Plez to Lamormenil is operated by Vicinal aturorail and trailers. There is also a small museum at Pont d’Érezée.
Cost – £50 per person including transportation
Annual dinner in the Novotel Charleroi restaurant
3 course menu plus appetizers, half a bottle of wine per person followed by tea and coffee
29th September
Optional Excursion to the ASVi Museum at Thuin (21km) and a ride on the line to Lobbes also featured in a T&UT article.
Cost – £50 per person including transportation
Return to UK on 29th or 30th September
Booking Options
Fully Inclusive Option
Mapmaker Travel can offer a fully inclusive option for the weekend including a choice of Hotel and all meals noted above and all excursions. A choice of travel by either Eurostar from London or flights from, Ryanair from Manchester, Glasgow or Edinburgh to Brussels South at Charleroi or other airports to Brussels Zaventem Airport by a variety of airlines.

Pick and Choose Option
Mapmaker Travel can offer, on request, a pick and choose option based on a minimum of a 2 night stay, the evening reception at Le Bois du Cazier on 27th Sept and the Annual Dinner on 28th Sept. Optional extras to include the pre-AGM Lunch and the two excursions on 28th and 29th Sept.
Similarly travel out and back via Eurostar can be arranged if desired as well as flights from UK airports by special arrangement. Alternatively, you are free to make your own travel arrangements.
