Trams in the Countryside

Geoffrey Tribe, 17th October 2017

Geoff's presentation was an expanded version of one prepared for the July meeting when we had more material than could comfortably be fitted into the time available.

The first part commenced with a comparatively recent view of the horse tramway on the East Frisian island of Spiekeroog was followed by historical views of steam tramways in the UK and elsewhere before electric trams in France and Belgium. A few Vicinal Autorails in Belgium and electric trams from around Europe were followed by a return to the UK for the Burton & Ashby and other rural lines. The first part concluded with a look at present day tramways etc. in the UK where some surprisingly, or perhaps deceptively, rural looking locations can be found.

The second part comprised principally other people's images, acquired from various sources, covering a variety of topics and locations from around the world of particular interest to the speaker.
