Kansas City rejects tax increase for light rail

In a 7 August ballot Kansas City, US, residents voted 60/40 to reject the idea of an additional 0.5% sales tax increase to provide the local funding share for a USD 793 million light rail plan. However after the results were announced, the Mayor hinted that another proposal, perhaps for a shorter initial line, may be put before voters in November 2002.
