Siemens successful in Budapest

The Budapest Transport Authority BKV has decided to re-equip its heavily patronised city ring tram routes 4 and 6 (used by 220 000 passengers/day) with new cars that will be the longest trams in the world. 40 53-meter low-floor double-ended articulated cars based on the Combino variant previously delivered to Düsseldorf have been ordered from Siemens/Kiepe for delivery in 2005-6. The EUR 150 million contract will see the nine-section 351-passenger trams built at the Siemens plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen.
