Leipzig orders Flexity trams

The supervisory board of the transport authority of the city of Leipzig has given notice that it intends to order twelve Bombardier Flexity Classic low-floor trams, valued at approximately EUR40 million. The contract, which is due to be signed in the next few weeks, includes an option for twelve further vehicles. Delivery of the trams is expected to take place from August 2005 to May 2006.

The 45-metre vehicles will be built at Bombardier's German facility of Bautzen. The trams' Bombardier Mitrac propulsion system will be provided by its site in Mannheim, also in Germany. The vehicles will have a total capacity for 187 passengers (106 seated, 81 standees) and will be of a modular low-floor design and will come complete with air conditioning, video surveillance cameras and flat screen information panels.
