Midland Metro extension

The Department for Transport has announced that the Government has given the GBP 127.1 million project to extend the Midland Metro network initial funding approval.

The extension will run from the existing Metro terminus at Snow Hill, along a GBP9 million viaduct already built, down Upper Bull Street and Corporation Street and then on to Stephenson Street stopping outside a new entrance at New Street Station.

The project is set to benefit from a fleet of new trams, replacing those presently running on the line between Snow Hill and Wolverhampton, the construction of a new maintenance depot at Wednesbury and platform lengthening at existing Metro stops.
