Royal launch for Rabat-Salé tramway

HM King Mohammed VI inaugurated Morocco's first modern tramway on 18 May, with revenue service from 23 May. The 19.5-km standard-gauge line represents an investment of over EUR 318M and includes a new river crossing, the Hassan II Bridge. The French Transdev group has a six-year operating contract. The line runs from Hay Karima in Salé to Centre commercial Université in Rabat. A second line is nearing completion from the bus station in Salé to the My Youssef hospital in Rabat. Both lines will cross the Hassan II Bridge. Alstom has supplied 44 Citadis trams, including 38 that are single-ended, but double-sided, and operate as back-to-back pairs creating a 65m unit with a capacity of 580 passengers (118 seated). The remaining six are double-ended single units.
