Solaris wins second German tram order

Polish company Solaris Bus & Coach SA has been selected from six bidders by the German city of Braunschweig to supply 15 new 100% low-floor Tramino design trams. Delivery will start in May 2014 and run for nine months, The contract is worth EUR 33.1M, with a 50% subsidy coming from the Land of Niedersachsen. The four-section cars will be 36m long with 77 seats and space for 124 standing passengers.

Solaris is a relative newcomer to tram production, after several years producing buses and trolleybuses, but was successful in winning a launch contract for 40 trams in the Polish city of Poznan. More recently it broke into the German market with a small order for Jena in eastern Germany.
