Another new tramway for Paris

16 November saw the opening of another new RATP tramline, the detached 11.2km line T7 linking the southern suburbs of Villejuif Louis Aragon (interchange with metro line 7) and Athis-Mons Port d'Essonne (near Orly Airport, where there is a tunnel under the runways and a tram station at Terminal Sud) mostly alongside the N7 highway. Work started in January 2011 and construction costs were EUR 223.1M. 19 32.7m five-section Alstom Citadis trams (701-719) costing EUR 48M provide a five-minute peak service from a 24 000m2 depot at Moulin Vert. 9.7M passengers/year are expected to use the new line. By 2018 T7 should be extended further south to RER Juvisy-sur-Orge, with a further 12 trams required, at a cost of EUR 231M.
