Light Rail for better public transport

Edinburgh opens

The opening today (Saturday 31 May) was preceded by an official launch on Friday where Edinburgh residents were joined by Transport Convener Lesley Hinds, Transport Minister Keith Brown and key people involved in delivering the new service for a special tram trip to commemorate the occasion. The tram traveled from York Place to Edinburgh Airport before returning to St Andrew Square, with various photo calls held along the route to highlight selected stops and some of the people who will use them.

With the service now in operation and despite all the delays and problems an Edinburgh councillor, Cllr Frank Ross, has said the benefits the tram network will bring to the city are so great he would support any plans for it being extended, saying he believed the trams would bring investment and jobs but, warned that lessons must be learned ahead of any potential expansion of the tram network.

We wish Edinburgh trams a successful future
