Detroit chooses Brookville trams

The July issue of Tramways & Urban Transit carries a Detroit news item announcing the signing of a contract for new trams with Inekon. This did not happen.

Instead, on 8 June, M-1Rail, the private company that is building the Detroit tramway, announced that it had signed a USD32M contract with Brookville Equipment Corporation for six US-built trams, including battery power for off-wire operation. Delivery of the double-ended four-axle articulated cars is scheduled for late 2016.

Brookville, which has long experience refurbishing trams, delivered its first two modern-image cars to Dallas' Oak Cliff tramway earlier this year, and they have been carrying passengers since April.
