Trams the Green Machine
For nearly 80 years the LRTA has promoted the development of modern trams and light rail.
Climate change is real and all political parties are in theory committed to net zero.
However, how they get there is very much in doubt and actions speak louder than words.
The LRTA wants to see the next government invest in transport solutions which are 100% Clean and Green.
This includes the development and use of trams in our towns and cities. Our reasons for this can be found on the next page Trams – The Green Machine
We believe a MINIMUM of 5 Light Rail Schemes should be developed in the next Parliament and are asking all Parliamentary Candidate to sign up to the following pledge:
- Agreeing to support a program of up to 5 Light Rail (Tram Schemes) in the next Parliament.
- To support two schemes already in the planning stage – Coventry VLR (Very Light Rail) and West Yorkshire Mass Transit
- To support and press if elected for at least 3 more schemes to receive public funding
- To become a member of the All Party Light Rail Group and to raise and ask questions in Parliament to support these objectives
We will publish a list of those candidates who have signed up to this pledge.
If you are willing to write or send an email to the Parliamentary Candidates in your area please use the draft email/letter below.
For our childrens∕grandchildrens future please act.
