Anna Chang: A Rising Star

TramForward congratulates Anna Chang, a PhD Student at Loughborough University for achieving Highly Commended in the Rising Star category at the Global Light Rail Awards, held at the Honourable Artillery Company, London, on Wednesday 2nd October.

Paul Rowen, Chair of the Light Rail Transit Association said “we were very pleased to nominate Anna, one of the Association’s younger members, for this award and we are delighted that he has achieved this recognition for research into alternative energy sources.”

Anna is currently developing a model to study alternative energy sources for light rail, including batteries and super-capacitors. The model uses extensions to an existing light rail system as a realistic test-bed, and aims to provide a “helicopter view” of the comparative energy supply and usage characteristics of the various types of energy storage under different scenarios.

The Global Light Rail Awards are a joint venture of Mainspring and the Light Rail Transit Association, held annually in October. The Rising Star Award is designed to celebrate those young professionals who have shown the qualities to move forward in the sector and act as a role model for other young professionals looking at a career in this vibrant and exciting industry.
