Obituary: Curt M.Elmberg 1931-2020

News

On 4 June 2020, the death occurred in Göteborg, Sweden, of Curt M. Elmberg, who spent much of his career (1946-1990) with the transport undertaking Göteborgs Spårvägar, and as its Director of Planning was responsible for developing a modest city tramway network into what might be called the world’s the first light rail system. He also saw the city through its H-Day in September 1967, when the rule of the road in Sweden changed from driving on the left to driving on the right. At that time he did not stint on the time and hospitality afforded to a visiting group from the Light Rail Transit Association, which made him an honorary Vice-President in return. He subsequently became Tramway Director until retirement, and published six research papers. We offer our condolences to his wife Birgitta, children Eva and Tommy, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral was held at Sävedalens Church on 30 June. MRT
