Trams for Derby Conference
The Light Rail Transit Association (LRTA) is holding a conference in Derby, regarding our submission to the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) for a tramway system for Derby. The planned tramway will connect the major traffic generators in Derby with the major suburbs, and also the Nottingham NET system, to give the basis for an East Midlands Metro.
This tramway system will give public transport a much higher share of trips from the present 5%, to over 20%. Most of these will be diverted from car use, and will do much to remove the strangulation of Derby by traffic congestion with its consequent pollution. It will be a catalyst for the regeneration of the declining city centre and boost the economy and environment of the area; and will be much better value for money than the £600M for the A38 Derby Junctions scheme.
The conference will be held in two sessions in the York Suite of the Aston Court Hotel in Derby, opposite Midland Station, on Thursday 16th April.
Both sessions are free.
Session 1 at 1530 – For Councillors and officers, MPs, business leaders & media.
